Why Have a Themed Wedding?

What’s with all the buzz these days about “themed weddings?” Are they more commonplace now or have they always been around and we are just hearing about them more? Well, themed wedding have been around for awhile, but they weren’t really known as such. It was more a traditional idea of “having a Garden Wedding” maybe, or a “Destination Wedding.” While not so much a new idea, themed weddings stand out more than they used to due to more unique and original ideas.

From seasonal themes like Vineyards, Harvest, and Christmas to romantic themes like Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, and Butterflies, themes do everything from uniting colors, cake choices, and favors to helping set a mood and showcasing a couple’s personality. While puppies and shades of lilac may be perfect for one couple, another might prefer leather and Harley Davidson motorcycles. The sky is the limit with themes; couples are only held back by their own imaginations. A traditional couple may want to go with a February 14th wedding date, a red, pink, and white color scheme, and a three-tiered white cake with ivory butter cream icing. This may not be your particular picture of your dream wedding. Perhaps you envision a green and purple Mardi Gras wedding, complete with masks and a traditional Kings cake as your perfect day. Whatever you can dream up can be done by a creative and flexible wedding planner!

Themes add an additional element of fun to a wedding. I recently attended a wedding that had the cutest theme! It was a second marriage for both the bride and groom and the theme clearly revolved around the cake. It consisted of about 4 layers, but instead of traditional cake layers, each layer was decorated to look like a mattress, gradually getting smaller, until at the top you found the cutest bride and groom sheep jumping over the top. The decorations were simple; candles as centerpieces with white feathers scattered around the tables. So cute and fun!! The atmosphere was light, informal, and relaxed; exactly what the couple wanted.

Themes can unite ideas, control a mood, and help with the decision-making process. With the millions of possibilities that abound in wedding planning, having a cohesive theme can simplify even the largest of wedding by breaking things down into simpler steps. If you’ve chosen a wine theme, colors almost choose themselves. A scheme of burgundy, green, and ivory starts the decision making process. The favors and decorations follow suit with corks, lighted bottles, faux grapes, and ivy. These touches may seem small, but combined they go the extra distance to merge all the elements together into a beautiful and unique day for the couple and their favored guests.

Whatever your style; be it elegant, classy, sporty, romantic, or quirky, you can find a theme that uniquely suits you and your fiancĂ© perfectly, making your most special day distinctly yours. Weddings with themes can go the extra distance to make even the smallest budgeted wedding extra special and memorable. Be creative, have fun, and don’t be afraid to bring your personality into the wedding of your dreams!
